Who am I?

My name is Nancy Cook RMT, CSEP-CPT. I have been a Fitness Professional for 20 years in Barrie. I have earned the title of Canada's Fitness Professional of the Year in 2009 chosen by Can Fit Pro delegates. Barrie's Biggest Loser (Get Fit Challenge) was my little project. I helped many participants in Simcoe County learn about healthy lifestyles while losing some unwanted weight. Participants had a great time, got healthy and fit, and then got to show off all their hard work in a runway celebration. It was so much FUN!

I love fitness. It is been a great career, and you can still find me teaching Virtual Fitness Classes through Innisfil Recreation Department. I am a true believer that regular activity will help your longevity and mobility through life. BUT I wanted to take helping people to the next level.

Georgian College has a great Massage Therapy program. With lots of hard work and determination I graduated the program with honours, while still operating Go Figure! and raising my little Lucy. It was certainly challenging. I must thank my love ones for their patience through many hours of studying and practicing and their ongoing support as I relaunch Go Figure! Massage Studio.

Enough about me... why do you want to read this blog? Because you will find information about Health, Fitness and Wellness while adding some humour while you read; oh and I am pretty cool too.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) are primary healthcare provider in Ontario. Massage Therapy is a natural healthcare option that can help alleviate discomfort and pain associated with everyday occuptional stress, overuse muscular issues and many chronic pain conditions.

Massage therapy can be use in the treatment of acute or chronic conditions. Registered Massage Therapy can treat a diverse group of patients with the treatment of illness, rehabilitation and disabilities.

Massage therapy can be an important part of your health maintenance plan by:

  • Reducing or eliminating pain

  • Improving joint mobility

  • Improving lymphatic drainage

  • Reducing muscular tension

Massage Therapy is not covered by OHIP in Ontario, but most extended health care benefits included massage therapy. Please check with your insurance company while you don't need a referral to book an appointment with an RMT. Your insurance may require a doctor's referral.
