Fitness Professional of the Year 2009

Nancy Cook (Go Figure!), Fitness Professional has been chosen as the Can-Fit-Pro Fitness Professional of the Year 2009. This award recognizes a Can-Fit-Pro certified and practicing professional member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, motivation, and technical skills and has inspired clients to achieve their goals.

The nominations were submitted to Can-Fit-Pro and based on the nominee fitness industry activities between September 1st, 2008 and May 1st, 2009. “We received many nominations but yours (Nancy Cook) stood out as being amongst the best of the best!” stated Sarah Kirkpatrick, Membership Administrator

Can Fit Pro announced the final award winner and presented the award on Friday, August 21, 2009 during the Can-Fit-Pro opening ceremonies at the International Fitness and Club Business Conference and Trade Show. The opening ceremonies did take place from 12:15pm to 2:00pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre. 


Barrie’s Biggest Loser Challenge

Barrie’s Biggest Loser Challenge is a terrific promotion happening in September. Go Figure! will be presenting Barrie's Biggest Loser in partnership with the Barrie Examiner. It will be a 14-week challenge for 26 Simcoe County and Barrie Residents who will compete with each other to re-shape their lives. Watch the Saturday Examiner newspaper for updates on your favourite challengers.

We have some great sponsors donating prizes to our challengers. We also will have weekly challenges in which, each challenger will have the opportunity to receive the weekly challenge prizes, which will vary. Some prizes include 3 month membership and gift pack from Good For Life, Outfitted from head to toe from New Balance. This grande finale for this challenge happens on December 15, 2009.

Don’t miss out on your chance to become Barrie’s Next Biggest Loser Challenger. New challenge begin Jan.15, 2009. Get your entries in starting November 30/09 and End on December 30, 2009.


 

Babies and Buggies – formally known as Stroller Striders

A great chance to be active and meet other parents and caregivers! Babies and Buggies is a FREE instructor led walking program for anyone pushing a stroller. This program is offer Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9am in front of the Dollarama – Bayfield Mall.

Please join us, newcomers welcomed. Program began September 22, 2009 and will run for 10 weeks – end of November.

Body Boot Camp – for all fitness levels, be prepared to work hard!, but we not trying to kill you. LOL

Fitness Tip

Physical activity is accumulative. So if you only have twenty minutes, three times per day. For example – walk the day for 20 minutes in the morning before work, twenty minutes at lunchtime and a twenty minutes brisk walk after dinner…. There is your 60 minutes per day. You would start off slow and build to a brisk walk. So let’s beat the time barrier…

Try This Excercise

Hamstring Curl on the Ball

Hamstring Curl

Lying supine on a mat, heels are placed equally on the ball. Press backside of arms into the ground for support.

Hamstring Curl 2

Dig your heels in and bend your knees, lift your buttock and roll the ball towards your seat. Roll the ball back out and place buttock on the ground, repeat. Be aware of proper knee tracking and a level pelvis during all reps.
